Lady Jan Witnesses a Crime!

My family and I where at Wal-green's yesterday, and while we were shopping.

Something happened.

At first I was the only one that noticed this guy who had walked in, and he looked well . . . scruffy. His clothes and even his skin looked grey. He was a white man in his early 20's, his hair was shaggy and in his face, and he walked in with his head down.

And there was just something not quite right about him. I kept glancing over at him--what was he up too?

He asked the store manager for help, and he said (he) "wanted a digital camera." (Those things are expensive.) Then he asked about something else that was over by my husband and myself. Maybe it was some batteries for the camera. I think he was trying to get the store manager between us and him. I moved out of the way, and my husband turned and started looking at something else.

Then the guy went over to the cashier--like he was going to buy the camera.

Then he bolted out the door instead!

I heard a gasp from the manager who still near us, and he and another clerk ran out the door after the thief--fast! Right on that guys heels!

Those young men could move!

I said "Well look at that! He was a shoplifter!" That explains my intuition going off.

And my daughter said, "Yeah. huh? The excitement around here just never stops."

The store manager came back in in a few minutes with the camera in hand. I think the thief ditch the camera after seeing the two men chasing him. I guess he thought that would make them stop. But I guess he was surprised when the clerk--a young athletic looking man--didn't.

We bought our stuff and left just after that, so I didn't see if the clerk caught him or not.

I think not.

And my husband--well--he missed the whole thing! He didn't see any of it!

Hi Janice ~~ That would be scary and I am glad that no one was hurt, just scared badly I guess. I have wondered
how I would feel if anything like that
or worse happened while I was in a shop or bank. I hope I never find out.
Thanks for your kind words at my blog.
Take care, Merle.

Eesh. I wonder if he was supporting a habit? Grey isn't the right colour for skin.

What a nasty feeling being caught in the middle of it!

Hi Ipodmomma,

Well, thanks but I didn't do anything, and the manager didn't even ask if I'd be a witness. Though I would have if asked. And sadly this isn't the first crime that I've seen.

Hi Ann,

No, thank goodness. I'm glad he wasn't after cash, or he might have had a gun. Now that would be scarey!

Hi Ipodmomma,

Thanks, if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll be sure to stop in for tea and scones.

Hi Merle,

No, thank goodness no one was hurt, well maybe the camera was a little bit. I was just like, "h-mm, what going on, and is something gonna happen?" And then it did.

Hi Madcapp,

I think he was on some kind of drug, meth or crack cocain. It's the drugs that was making him to it. Drugs take over your life, and I think that's why he appeared grey to me--the drugs were sucking the life from him.

Hi Megz_mum,

The funny thing was--I wasn't scared, but I didn't want my family or I to be used as a shield either. So I was keeping a eye on him, even though I had no idea why I was. It was a feeling or my intuition that said I should.

Your Lady Jan~

Wow! That's quite the bit of drama there! And your Inner Knowingness had a sense about it from the start.

Hi Sarah,

Yeah, I did and it was odd. I'm gonna pay more attention the next time I get one of my feelings.

Hi Jeannette,

It wasn't a matter of staying; after the guy got his hands on the camera the rest went really fast, and we were at the other end from the door.

Lady Jan~
