Lady Jan's Sister's Good News!

I got this e-mail from my sister, and it is the best post Christmas present I have ever gotten!

Hey Jan, news so good I gotta share -

Two weeks ago Dr. Berube (my hematologist at Stanford) told me that, since it's been three years since my transplant and my blood tests have been consistently good, pending my biopsy I could probably consider myself cured of leukemia. I had the biopsy last Monday, and just succeeded in brow-beating someone at Stanford into calling me back with the results, and IT'S ALL CLEAR!! YAY! YIPPEE! YAHOO!!

Lady Jan's Family has Kimonos! And a Christmas Kiss

My family in Kimonos

We had our anniversary dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant called Kim's on Shaw, and near there was a store called the Silk Robe gallery also on Shaw. At the store we found a lot of imports including kimonos, and my husband wanted his very own for his anniversary gift from me, so I let him get it (I'm nice that way).

My Daughter wanted her own kimono too and had already saw one she liked. So back we went back to the Central Fish Company in the Fresno's China town, and my daughter bought her very own Kimono (in the up stairs gift shop) with her Christmas money that she has already received.

This is my Christmas Kiss.

My husband bought this glass Hersey's kiss for me a few years ago for Christmas, and every year I bring it out and he buys me Hersey's kiss chocolates and fills it for me.

And in that way I get my Christmas kiss early every year.

Merry Christmas to everyone out there in blogland, and may you all have a Christmas kiss!

Lady Jan's 27th Anniversary

December 21, 1979
Here we are on our wedding day!

Gee, we were so skinny back then.

The something new was the wedding dress,

the something borrowed was my mother's pearl necklace,

and the something blue was the blue garter around my leg.

A little over ten years later we had our only child Sarah.

The secret to our long marriage?

I'd have to say a sense of humor, his as well as mine.

When you live with a man that long you just got to have one.

This picture is a couple of years old now,
but what the heck it's not like we have changed that much.Posted by Picasa
And this photo was taken on our 25th wedding anniversary.
Now we are at our 27th isn't that something?

Lady Jan's Daughter gets her Yellow belt

This is were I share my bragging rights, my daughter Sarah has been in the Karate club at school since it was formed at the beginning of this school year.

And a dojo in Fresno has a once a year open testing for anyone who has the money to come and test for a belt. My daughter sense' thought they were ready.

They kids were all racked with nerves, and the two hour long tests tired out even the most studious of the bunch.

My poor husband hands were all sweaty as we sat and watched our daughter go through her paces, and he breathed a sigh of relief and finally relaxed after she got her belt. I wasn't worried I had faith in her I knew she could do it.

And our daughter is very proud of herself too, she said this test was worse than the final she had this past week at school.

Afterwards we took her to the Fish market in Fresno's China town, and had lunch and bought her some good luck trinkets from the gift shop on the second floor, and the head band she has on her head in the pictures. The head band is suppose to bring about concentration in the student while they study. My daughter saw it in a cartoon.

TV actor Peter Boyle dead at 71

Film, TV actor Peter Boyle dead at 71 By Daniel Trotta
Wed Dec 13, 4:34 PM ET

Emmy-winning actor Peter Boyle, who played the tap-dancing monster in the movie "Young Frankenstein" and grouchy father Frank Barone in the TV series "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died at age 71.

The former Christian Brothers monk and friend of Beatle John Lennon died on Tuesday after a long battle with multiple myeloma and heart disease, his publicists said on Wednesday.

Boyle, who often played cantankerous characters, shot to fame as a foul-mouthed, working-class bigot in the 1970 film "Joe."

He also played one of Robert DeNiro's fellow taxi drivers in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" in 1976 and the cruel, racist father to Billy Bob Thornton in 2001's "Monster's Ball."

In the 1974 Mel Brooks spoof "Young Frankenstein," he took a comic turn as the Frankenstein monster, singing and dancing to "Puttin' on the Ritz" with Gene Wilder in tuxedos and top hats.

"I was greatly saddened by the news. I will always cherish Peter Boyle's remarkable performance as the monster in 'Young Frankenstein,"' Brooks said.

In recent years he played numerous roles on television, including the father to Ray Romano's character on the situation comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond," which ended its celebrated nine-year run on CBS in May 2005. He acted in 201 episodes and received numerous Emmy nominations.

"We spent nine years together on 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' It is like losing a spouse," said Doris Roberts, who played his wife on the TV show.

"I am going to miss my dear friend, so unlike the character he played on television. He's a brilliant actor, a gentleman, incredibly intelligent, wonderfully well-read and a loving friend."

Boyle won an Emmy for outstanding guest actor appearance on "The X-Files" in 1996.

Lennon was the best man at Boyle's 1977 wedding to journalist Loraine Alterman, then a Rolling Stone reporter.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Amy and Lucy Boyle.

Despite playing some unsavory characters, he refused roles that glamorized violence, including the lead role of Popeye Doyle that went to Gene Hackman in 1971's "The French Connection," according to the IMDb entertainment Web site.

Boyle suffered a stroke in 1990 and recovered, then had a heart attack on the set of "Everybody Loves Raymond" in March 1999. He returned to the show soon after heart surgery.

Lady Jan a Winner?

So I finished the contest and I am still writing on my manuscript.
It's not finished, it need to be finished, at lest that is what I am telling myself.
It was rather a freeing experience.
the characters became real and said what they wanted to say, and sometimes it surprised me what appeared on the screen as I typed. Some times they said the sweetest or saddest things, and others time they could be a jerk to each other.
My hope is that I have tapped into something here, and it'll be the first of many manuscripts that I write, and maybe I'll actually see something get published?
But I did win and so did a lot of other people.
The contest was to write in one month (November) 50,000 words.
It didn't matter what you wrote about, all that mattered was that you did it.
Here's my prize, I have it print it out myself and sign my name to it, but this is the winners certificate.
The only problem is that when I blew it up to print, the pixels were so big you couldn't read it!
So much for winning!
