Sprinkles and Petals.

Last weekend in the Central Valley of California, it's sprinkling.

The almond trees are blooming and some of the petals are on the ground looking a bit like snow. Birds are singing and looking for a mate.

It all makes me feel a bit sleepy.

Hubby is still in bed but he's going to work tonight (graveyard shift), and I still feel like snuggling up with him before he has to leave.

First day of Autumn

Today is the first day of fall. It rained here yesterday and the temperature lowered. I actually slept, for the first time in months, under a blanket.

How's the first day of fall for you?

Thursday's Thirteen: Save Water

I live in a dry arid area here in the central valley of California. We don't take water for granted here, especially not in a drought.

Here are thirteen ways to save water:

1. Even though it's fall it's still hot here so when kids want to cool off in the water, put a sprinkler out where your lawn needs it.
2. Don't run the water when you brush your teeth.
3. Don't water your lawn, or if you insist on having at least a semi green lawn then water twice a week.
4. Install low boy toilets to conserve on water (that's what we have).
4. Run the dishwasher only when you have a full load.
5. Wash your car in those places that recycle water.
6. Only wash full loads of laundry.
7. Buy water conserving appliances
8. Use the garbage disposal sparingly. Compost your vegetables instead to save on water.
9. Spread mulch around your plants to keep in the moisture.
10. Fix faucet leaks indoors and out.
11. Sweep patios and walkways instead of hosing them off.
12. Install a rain sensor on your water system so your sprinklers won't run during the rain.
13. Take shorter showers or use the buddy system. It's always fun to share.

Isn't it too early for April Fools?

It started to rain a little while ago so I opened the door to enjoy it, then this sound started.

Loud, really loud thumps. Which for some reason made me think of a giant's loud tread.

Then the noise got even louder. Like whatever it was, was heading my way. As the noise got louder, I felt it vibrate under my feet.

I looked out all the windows and couldn't see what it was, even went out on the porch, but the almond trees that surround my house are really tall now, so it was hard to see.

But I do know that noise wasn't thunder and I kept thinking of those weird noises that have been reported and heard all around the world.

Oh, thank goodness just stopped.

Now all I need is a loud voice saying, "Ha, ha, April fools!"

Rainy Tuesday

It rained over the weekend, yesterday and today.
This morning on the news they said we had 43 hundredth of inch.
Huh?
After all those days of rain, not even half an inch?

Rain walling off my porch, I took this today.

After waiting all weekend for my hubby to get me something for Valentines, I gave up.
I took my daughter down and we bought some half priced goodies for ourselves at Long's.

My Valentines gift for myself that I order off eBay.
I got it in the mail today, and hubby fastened it around my neck.

Day After Halloween: Rain

Don't be alarmed this is still Lady Jan's blog I just did some revamping. Do you like it?

It's the day after Halloween, and my daughter's party was a huge success. All her guest arrived, though two came late and had to leave early. They all loved the Chucky movies, but unfortunately one was too badly scratched to play.

My husband saw his cake yesterday morning after he got home from working the night shift. He walked into the kitchen saw it and I heard him laugh. He said he "Loved it."

He's such a good sport, but I bet he'll get me when I turn 50 in a few years.

I found little ghosts for his B-day candles. If I got 50 candles it might have set the house on fire, lol.

Dave with his cake and my daughter and one of her guests in the back ground. We sang "happy birthday," and he blew out the candles.
He ate a slice, and took a whole pizza that I had bought for him to work for his lunch.

I had already given him his B-day gifts on Wednesday his real B-day; a movie Cloverfield, and two packages of Pistachios (he likes nuts, that's why he married me).

Today is the first day of the
NaNoWriMo aka national November writer's month. This is when all us lunatic try madly to write a 50,000 word novel in a months time, starting November first to midnight November 30th.

It anyone want to do it I think the sign up is still going on just log into the website.

I'm all signed up for the Nano as Lady Jan, and I might not be posting very much this month with all the writing I will be doing.

But please keep checking back, because I will be posting my word count, and you can cheer me on.

And at long last its raining!

Not just the sprinkles, but real rain.

I had to go out and get wet. Its so cool and smells so good.

Don't you just love the rain?

A break in-between storms

While I was dropping off my husband at work I noticed our Sierra Nevada Mountains to the East of us looked closer and the snow level looked really low. I came home and grabbed my camera and took a few pictures before I had to run my daughter to school.

The last of the sunrise gave a golden glow to the morning light.

To the North of our house you can just make out the snow on our beautiful mountains.

The same side our house, but a clearer shot.

Just after I took these pictures the clouds rolled in, and it rained all day.

Is it soup yet?

Three soupy things;
We're having soupy weather.

Last week it was pea soup fog, patchy but still areas where it was hard to see. I don't know if you have fog in your area but we get it even though we're over a hundred miles from any large body of water. What causes it is a dried lake bed now called ;
Tule grass land Because of this we have fog through our cold wet weather, that's usually November through March.

This week though we are having rain. It's making soup out of our Almond orchard. Today I was trying to take home YGF and her BF and the road I normally take was so badly flooded that I had to go another way.

And it's suppose to rain like this all week and we may have an inch and a half of rain from this storm--so that's a good thing.

Is that soup on your sweat jacket?

My daughter brought her coat out to the car last week and was holding it like it was a dead thing. My first thought was did you spill some soup on it? My second was or did someone sneeze on it?

It was nether.

It was amniotic fluid all over her jacket.

My daughter has been taking Ag classes because she is a transfer student to Madera south as an Ag student hence the Ag classes.

That day they were getting a tour of the Ag farm and one of goats went into labor; the teacher said, "quick someone hand me those towels."

But none of the student moved and stared bug eyed at the small creature that was making an appearance from the goat's nether regions.

Not my daughter though; she lept into action grabbing the towels and entering the pen, she proceeded to help deliver the three newborn's and one under developed kid(baby goat). Unfortunately the underdeveloped kid didn't survived even though my daughter did everything she could to help and the instructor was so impressed she call my daughter "a natural."

And lastly My cat ate soup

My old cat Pookey was ill last week, she was coughing and sneezing like she had a cold(she's better now). I gave her some left over soup and she ate it.

  • She drank the broth
  • But she shunned the carrots
  • She ate all the chicken bits
  • And then she spit out all the egg noodles into a neat pile next to her food bowl.

I didn't know that cats could do that?

Rain-Rain please stay!

We finally have a big storm, which is a good thing because of our three year drought. This storm started around noon and is suppose to last till Saturday, and dump a half inch on us and give us snow on our Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

Which is very good for us.

The return of the Canadian Geese, they fly here every winter on the way further south.

Michelle aka Pandora, my daughter's best friend got a new kitty,

who dosen't like to be kissed.

Then my daughter had to have one too.

Here is Suzu, I think it means friend or companion in Japanese.

Both Kitties are from the same litter, that's Suzu on the left and Sage Michelle's kitty on the right. Michelle's is a boy and my daughter's kitty is a girl.
