Then and Now

It's a whole new year 2008 and I thought it would be fun to make a comparisons with say 28 years ago (1979), which just happens to be when I got married, and we'll see how much things have changed.

Then 1979--A home computer was the description of the second generation of desktop computers, entering the market in 1977 and becoming common during the 1980s.

And now 2008--we have computers so Small that they can fit in your pocket.

Then 1979--cable TV--Cable television in the United States is a common form of television delivery, generally by subscription. Cable television first became available in the United States in 1948, with subscription services in 1949. Recent data shows that 84.8% of all American homes subscribe to cable television. (I don't know about that, but in 1979 it was just getting started in my home town of Madera. )

And now 2008--We not only have cable TV, wireless cable, but there's also disc TV, broadband, Internet TV, High-Definition TV (HDTV) among others.
(We're still in the dark ages at me house just regular TV that comes in on the old fashioned antena.)

Then 1979--The only phone we had were plugged into the wall.

NOW 2008--Not only do we have wireless house phone, but we have cell phones that would make Kirk and the gang drool. (I finally broke down and got myself one.)

Then 1979--Cars all we had was the kind that uses gas or you pushed. And sadly enough with the gas shortage we were having at the time, we had to do that.

Now 2008--Cars--surprisingly enough the newer modles don't get as good of gas milage as they did in 1979, with the SUV's and big trucks that some people insist on taking up the road with. Even though we do have the eco friendly ones; weather it is the Hybrid Pruis or the electric Tesla there is an eco friendly car for you--that is if you got the cash as these are pricey cars.
~~~
And now something fun!
Your New Year's Resolutions
1) Get a pet pig (I don't think so)
2) Eat more chocolate syrup (maybe)
3) Travel to Australia (I wish)
4) Study fashion design (Oh no)
5) Get in shape with naked yoga (Who me?)
Hi Janice ~~ It is amazing the progress in 28 years. It is hard to
keep up with the technology. I still do not have a cell phone, but have cable TV mainly to watch Country Music and the football during the season. I have TV or radio on all the time just for company. I don't watch closely, but it breaks the silence.
Thanks for your comments and congrats on 2 years of blogging. I liked your Mark Twain quote, thanks. Take care, Love, Merle.
Hi Merle,
Yeah progress--wow the things we see like the enternet, and I forgot to add that blogging to the list too darn it.
I'm glad you like our Mark Twain.
Hi Gwen,
Thank you on the Anniversery wish and you too you have me beat by a good few years. And don't give it another thought sometimes I forget things too and I can't blame it on anything other than being a little preoccupied.
Happy New year to you both, and I feel both blessed to have you two and Ann (Ann where are you?) as my blog friends.
Lady Jan~
