A St. Paddy's day Present from your Lady Jan

This song an uniquely Irish-American,
as it is a good-by from a parent to a son who is going to America.
Also this parent know he or she will never see this son again.
Keep that in mind as you read the lyrics.
O' Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow (death)
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying(grave)
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
(I think that is a rosery)

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
(the last bit is the son going to the parent grave)

There is three reasons I posted this song:
1. My young goth friend's new dog is named Danny boy.

2. my grandfather sang this song.

3. my next door nieghbor was nicknamed Danny Boy, and I had a crush on him.

Later your lady Jan~

the irish band i play with is doing the big St Paddy's bash tomorrow night. it's a monster party, very loud and rowdy, but the best paying gig of the year. .... we don't yet do Danny Boy

i took today off to rest up for it.. kind of preventative maintenance.

happy St Paddy's
