Madera is a one hundred years old!


My home town is a hundred years old!

A centennial committee has been meeting to develop plans for a series of events. The committee is being co-chaired by City Council Member Robert Poythress, Mayor Steve Mindt, and Madera County Historical Society President, Sheryl Berry. The community is invited to participate and attend these planning meetings. The following is a list of current events planned... volunteers are being sought to help with these projects. The public is invited and encouraged to attend all of these events.


OLD TIMER'S PARADE... Centennial Theme... September 30, 2006
A KICK-OFF CELEBRATION is planned for Wednesday, January 17th at 4:45p.m. at City Hall Foyer, located at 205 West Fourth Street in Madera. The event will include an open house with refreshments followed by the City Council meeting at 6:15 p.m. with the reading of a Proclamation, by our own historian Bill Coate, designating 2007 as our Centennial Celebration year, introduction of the Centennial Committee members, rollout of the events planned for the year and a presentation by the Madera County Historical Society.

CENTURY LUNCHEON... Celebrate our City's 100th Birthday and heritage - a look at Madera's Past, Madera Today, and Madera's Future... we will also honor Madera's 100 year old business and more... this Century Luncheon hosted by the Madera Chamber of Commerce, Madera Noon Rotary and Madera Sunrise Rotary on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Madera Municipal Golf Course. Cost is $15.00 per person - reservations are required (space is limited). To make a reservation or for more information, please call the Chamber Office at (559) 673-3563. CENTENNIAL PARK DEDICATION (formerly Swimming Pool Park) & Century Tree Planting... on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Please join the City Council and Staff for the dedication to take place at the park located at the corner of 4th and Flume Streets, more details will follow. Mr. Mike Hinton and students of Madera High School will present the city with a Time Capsule.
CITY OF MADERA CENTENNIAL OPEN HOUSE... on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.. Please join the City Council and City Staff for a Open House at City Hall located at 205 West Fourth Street in Madera.

'100 TREES FOR 100 YEARS'... This event will involve the planting of 100 trees in the city to commemorate the Centennial. Sponsors for each tree will be sought, along with volunteers to plant them. To make a donation to the Centennial Tree Planting project, please contact Parks & Community Services at (559) 661-5495 for additional information.
Community Stakeholders, service clubs, organizations, volunteers and other groups, including churches, are urged to take part throughout the year in the Centennial activities. They are also encouraged to incorporate the Centennial Theme in all of their events. How can you help?
