Thursday's thirteen: Signs of Spring

It's spring here in California, but I know there's places where it's still snowing. If you're tired of the winter weather, here's thirteen signs of Spring to cheer you up.

  1. Daffodils
  2. Blooming trees
  3. Crocus
  4. Tulips
  5. New spring leaves
  6. Warmer weather
  7. Return of song birds
  8. Birds building nests
  9. The grass needing to be mowed
  10. Time to weed the garden
  11. Spring forward time change
  12. Pool parties
  13. Spring Cleaning

Wonderful picture (also the once from last week) I long for spring now – and we have had a little taste of it here in the cold northern Europe :-) But the weather is changing all the time, and I guess we have to wait another month before it’s more stabile… -if it gets stabile at all. –And when it comes to spring cleaning, it’s all right to wait another month! The song birds are here though and what an incredible feeling they bring when I ride my bike every morning to the office… Springtime is really a wonderful natural mind therapy, no wonder it’s so easy to fall in love this time a year :-)

Ah, I do love spring. Daffodils are my favorite flowers.

Hi La Sognatrice,

Thank you. The picture and the ones from last week were taken in my yard and in the orchard around my house.

We have a bird here called the meadow lark. You only hear it sing out in the country. I love its sweet song.

I vote for next month for the spring cleaning too.

Hi Shelley,

Thank you. That's one of my daffodils. The first one that bloomed for me this year. :)

I'm still trying to adjust to the "longer" days and the warming weather. And my allergies.

Ugh.

I can't wait for Autumn! :P Heh.

Happy TT!

Its been a warm year. My daffodils
have already bloomed and died. Now I'm ready for Lilacs, my favorite spring flower. We usually get them around mothers day (I gave my mom some from my house for mother's day last year since she can't seem to grow any) but due to how warm it is, maybe they'll come early this year. At least I can hope.

Hi Willa,

Mine are gone too, but I have paper whites blooming in their place.

Lilacs are very nice. I have my new jasmine vines blooms just outside my garden gate and filling their air with their sweet scent.

This is ironic. My dd just made me go out in the yard and look at a crocus that is ready to bloom.

Hi Alice,

That's great. Crocus are usually the first to bloom and considered by some to be the Harbingers of Spring.

However, when I still had crocus (before the gofers ate them) my daffodils still beat them out of the ground by a full two days.

We had a mild winter here, followed by July temperatures in March, which had everything blooming 4-6 weeks early. The only problem with that is that winter then returned at start of April. No snow or even rain (which we could really use), just dry, cold weather that is threatening to destroy fruit crops. Can't wait until we're back in the 70s again! Thanks for visiting!

Hi Heather,

I imagine you would be ready for some warm weather after the cold spell.

Hi Lynda,

Well, it was warm for us, until a storm rolled in. We're wet and windy right now. :(
