Thursday's thirteen: Happy Father's day

I don't usually do a Father's day Thursday thirteen, mostly because I lost my father nearly thirty years ago. I still miss him.
So here to you dad. Happy Father's day.

1. He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland

2. My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass." "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys." ~Harmon Killebrew

3. One father is more than a hundred Schoolemasters. ~George Herbert, Outlandish Proverbs, 1640

4. Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope. ~Bill Cosby

5. Father! - to God himself we cannot give a holier name. ~William Wordsworth

6. Henry James once defined life as that predicament which precedes death, and certainly nobody owes you a debt of honor or gratitude for getting him into that predicament. But a child does owe his father a debt, if Dad, having gotten him into this peck of trouble, takes off his coat and buckles down to the job of showing his son how best to crash through it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland

7. A father is always making his baby into a little woman. And when she is a woman he turns her back again. ~Enid Bagnold

8. Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father! ~Lydia M. Child, Philothea: A Romance, 1836

9. It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us fathers and sons. ~Johann Schiller

10. A father carries pictures where his money used to be. ~Author Unknown

11. When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years. ~Author unknown, commonly attributed to Mark Twain but no evidence has yet been found for this (Thanks, Garson O'Toole!)

12. Dad, you're someone to look up to no matter how tall I've grown. ~Author Unknown

13. My first word was Daddy. ~Janice Seagraves

I've loved that quote by Harmon Killegrew ever since I heard him say it when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Great post!

Great pic of your father. Having lost my father (4 yrs ago) I understand how difficult this day is for you. May you take comfort in your special memories together.
Happy T13!

Great quotes. I lost my father in '92 so I know how your feel. (I hate that he never got to know any of his grandchildren.)

Sweet list! You make me greatful to have my own wonderful dad. My husband had surgery recently and Dad and Mom travelled the length of the state to be with me. Then, after we knew all was well and I waited for a chance to visit hubby, Dad returned to our house and mowed the grass! Gotta love both my parents. Happy TT!

What an awesome list and a beautiful way to honor your father's memory.

A bit early, but a good list. It'll be ten years in September since my dad passed.

I never think of Father's Day. It just goes right through my mind.

Hi Maddy,

Yeah, that is a great quote. My dad said something like that, when he was trying to teach my sister and I to clog dance and scuffed up the floor my mom had just polished.

Hi Adelle,

Thank you so much. My dad was a very handsome man who loved to fish.

Hi Suzanna,

Your father too? My sister had a son two years after my father died. My daughter was born ten years after he passed away.

What's killing me right now is that my daughter got a car that needs a lot of work and I know if dad was a live he'd be helping her with it. He'd be eighty but he'd still be out there elbow deep in grease.

Hi Darla,

Thank you. You are so lucky to still have a father, and he and your mom sound like great parents.

Enjoy them.

Hi Paige,

Thank you.

Hi Skylar,

Thank you.

Hi Heather,

I'm just a few days early.

Hi Alice,

Well, Father's day is over shadow by Mother's day, which gets most of the attention.

Happy TT everyone.

Janice~

Dear Janice ~~ Great quotes and a lovely tribute to your Dad. My Dad
died 10 years ago and you never get over missing parents.
I do not wish to join Linkeden as I
don't know about it and have enough to do with Blogger and Facebook.
Please don't be offended. I still want to be your friend. Take care,
Love, Merle.

Hi Merle,

Yeah, you never do stop missing your dad. I agree with you there.

Oh, don't worry about the Linkeden thing, I just saw your name there and thought you were a member.

Your friend,
Janice~
