Thursday's thirteen: Aussies
In my first book, Windswept Shores, which will be out in 6/3/2010, in a week, my hero Seth is an Aussie. So of course I have him speak with a lot of slang or what they call in Austrilia strine.
Here is thirteen Aussie slang words, in no particular order: (And yes this is a repost, but don't let that stop you from leaving a comment.)
- G'day--good day, a greeting. Usually conbine with . . .
- Mate--a buddy, or best friend, or someone you just met and don't know their name yet, and you greet them with "G'day, mate."
- Your shout--if you value your life, you will buy the next round of drinks.
- Brekky--the first meal of the day.
- Tea--the last meal of the day.
- Bloke--a man who you don't know.
- Shelia--a woman, but its old and not use a lot anymore except by . . .
- Oldies--your parents, or old folks. Used by those under seventeen for anyone over the age of twenty.
- Chook--chicken, yes the kind that clucks.
- College--a private school, usually High School not collage in states or . . .
- Uni--University, or what we call collage in the states.
- Tucker--food, that stuff you tuck into your belly or tucker sack.
- Owsyerottenbleedinluckeh--Thought to be the longest word in the Austrialian language, it translates as things are not turning out as planed.

Chat
Chats over. Lisa and Molly joined me. Molly got a headache and had to leave. It was pretty wild. Lost of posts going through one after another. Over forty writers were there.
Franny won my mousepad, Lisa won a keychain, and Breia also won a keychain.
I'll try for another one next month that's not so fast, lol.

Thursday's thirteen: Bahamas
Since my first book, Windswept Shores, is going to be out next month, I though I would share some research on my story setting.
Thirteen facts about the Bahamas:
- The Bahamas lie just 60 miles off the coast of Florida.
- The Bahamas is its own country; the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
- The shallow sea is teal colored and at night an iridescent purple.
- Not only does the Bahamas have the best sports fishing, but also tropical fish like what you see at the pet store. Its an excellent place to go scuba diving.
- The Bahamas is the only place you can get spiny lobster, a local delicacy.
- Another local delicacy that you can't get any where else is made from conk, a shellfish, which they use to make conk chips and soups.
- Their dolphins are spotted. The Dolphin Encounter Tours, available at most of the larger islands, will take you out to swim with the dolphins.
- The Bahamas is home to pink flamingos.
- They also have large iguanas that live on most of the islands.
- There are over three hundred islands and cays, but only about eighty are inhabited.
- The Bahamas are warm almost year round.
- The get over 50 inches of rain a year on average.
- The capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, was once a pirate republic, and local hang out for the notorious Pirates; Black beard, Charles Cane, Calico Jack Rackham, along with women pirates; Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
