My daughter got her bed

The mattress was delievered today along with the bed frame(support),and my daughter is very happy. She had it made up and it's ready for sleeping.
"I thought it would be longer" she said, measuring it with her arms. "It's not much longer than the twin."

Me, "That's okay sweetheart, it's wide and you can sleep from corner to corner."
"Oh well, at least it's bigger than my old twin sized bed I had been sleeping on, and it just fits my room too. Thanks mom and dad."

Ker-thunk! SSSSSSSS!

Where my husband works they're redoing the parking lot one section at a time. And one of the things that they are taking out is the old trees and bushes.
.
I drove into the parking lot to pick up my husband after work and we were going to go to Fresno to do a couple of things. But my heart almost froze in my chest when I heard . . . .
.
K-thunk! SSSSSSSSSSSSS!
.
I said, "Oh-no, I know what that sounds is."
.
Sure enough we had a tire going down. My husband took a look at the tire, and it had a piece of wood as big as my thumb sticking out of it.
.
All thoughts of a nice shopping trip went out the window as we prayed on the way to the tire shop that we'd make it without flatting the rim. We only stopped once and that was at a gas station to air up the tire before we continued on our way.
.
The tire was completely flat by the time we got to Shelter tire, but they were open and took us right away. Less than an hour later we had two new tires, and we were able to go on to Fresno.
.
We had to pick up a battery that my husband had ordered for his PDA, and we also bought a mattress for my long legged daughter who has out grown her twin sized bed.
.
I slept on a twin until I got married, but hey I'm only 5' 3 ½", and my sixteen year old daughter is 5' 6 ½" a whole three inches taller than me.
.
Her feet hang off the end of the mattress.
.
We found a reasonable deal on a good comfortable mattress, and they will be delivering it on Sunday.
.
My husband was actually surprised that I did the deal myself.
.
When we went in and we were told we would be paying for the delivery and the mattress frame for the mattress.
.
I said, "We'll be checking out his neighbor American Mattress."
.
And presto we ended up with free delivery and a free bed frame.
.
Better and better I thought, and I said, "We'll take it." And wrote the check.

Different spellings of same words

Gledwood brought it to my attention about the different spellings in diarrhoea/diarrhea the last is American spelling. He says that "the Brits have to add an "o" for some ancient Greek-type reason."

So that got me thinking what else is spelled different? We after all are speaking the same language just with different accents. But we Americans are getting influenced by the many cultures that call our country home. And if that isn't enough we also make names up for new products or services ie; the Internet, eBay, and cell phones.

But what do you expect from a country that spell depot with a silent "T"?

We Americans also add "the" to almost everything--He went to the hospital, and the British version(and Aussie don't want to leave anyone out) he's going to hospital.

So a short list of different spelling of the same words(for a larger list click on link);

British-English/American-English

analyse/analyze
criticise/criticize
centre/center

cheque/check
colour/color
diarrhoea/diarrhea
encylycopaedia/encyclopedia
favourite/favorite
grey/gray
metre/meter
manoeuvre/maneuver
mediaeval/medieval
memorise/memorize
theatre/theater

Gees just look at the spelling no wonder I've always had problem in school? Maybe this is why--I have been spelling them correctly if I'd been born in England!!!

Happy St. Patty's day

'Éirinn go Brágh'
'Ireland forever'

AN OLD GAELIC PRAYER(curse)
May those who love us love us.
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we'll know them by their limping.

A joke

As soon as she had finished parochial school, a bright young girl named Lena shook the dust of Ireland off her shoes and made her way to New York where before long, she became a successful performer in show business.

Eventually she returned to her home town for a visit and on a Saturday night went to confession in the church which she had always attended as a child. In the confessional Father Sullivan recognized her and began asking her about her work. She explained that she was an acrobatic dancer, and he wanted to know what that meant.

She said she would be happy to show him the kind of thing she did on stage.

She stepped out of the confessional and within sight of Father Sullivan, she went into a series of cartwheels, leaping splits, handsprings and backflips. Kneeling near the confessional, waiting their turn, were two middle-aged ladies. They witnessed Lena's acrobatics with wide eyes, and one said to the other:

"Will you just look at the penance Father Sullivan is givin' out this night, and me without me bloomers on!"

Finally An Irish blessing
Deep peace of the running waves to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the smiling stars to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the watching shepherds to you.
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you
