The flu part 2

My husband took our daughter to her doctor's on Monday, and he said "she had the flu alright and the one going around that's really bad! He also said that "two of (his) nieces had come with it and one of them had to be hospitalized. The niece was hospitalized because her tempture had gotten too dangerously high. When my husband told him I had gotten it too, the doctor ran his hand over his face and said "yeah, it's really going around."

And he also said (my daughter) "can't go back to school until he gives her another exam to clear her of the flu." My husband is going to take her back tomorrow and then on Monday she will probably be allowed back to school.

My daughter and I haven't left the house all week, just my husband who has been leaving going to work and running errands for us when he comes home. And I'm finally feeling better today so I'm starting to feel isolated, it's not quite cabin fever yet but maybe I'll have that tomorrow.

Ah, something to look forward to cabin fever!

Lady Jan and Daughter are sick with the flu!

It's an icky day for me and my daughter; we're sick with the flu. And not the stomach flu thank God, but the other one that has been going around. My husband said it was called the 48 hour flu.

Colds and flu have a way of settling in where your weakest area is, and I have super sensitive sinuses and ashma so it can be a toss up where it'll settle in. This time it's the lungs and I'm having so much fun (read irony here) coughing up phlem! With my daughter it her sinuses, and she has gone through a lot of tissue boxes. We prefer puffs at our house, as it keeps our noesies from getting sore. If my daughter is still sick tomorrow she's gonna go to the doctor's.

If I owe you a posting I'm gonna have to post you later, as I'm gonna go to bed early tonight.

Good night all!

E-mail on protecting our Forests

Hi Janice,

For over three years, the Bush administration has been undermining the
Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects 58.5 million acres of
wild forests around America, 4.4 million acres here in California.

To ensure our forests continue to provide clean drinking water, habitat
for wildlife and endless opportunities for recreation and solitude we
must convince Gov. Schwarzenegger to fight for 100 percent protection of
California's last wild forests. Follow the link below to e-mail the
governor, and then ask your friends and family to do the same.

To take action follow this link or paste it into your Web browser.

http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/action/preservation/wildforests

Background

Enacted in January 2001, the Roadless Rule protects the last third of
America's national forests while allowing new road construction in order
to fight fires, ensure public safety, and allow brush clearing to
protect forest health. The Roadless Rule ensures that forests will continue
to provide clean drinking water, habitat for wildlife and endless
opportunities for recreation and solitude.

On July 12, 2004 the Bush administration announced its proposal to
repeal the Roadless rule and replace it with a process that allows
governors to petition for more or less protection for roadless areas in their
states.

The Bush administration scheduled a 60-day comment period on their
plan. During the comment period, the administration received more than 1.4
million comments in opposition to its proposal. About a dozen governors
spoke out in opposition to the proposal, as did many members of
Congress.
Despite the public support, President Bush repealed the Roadless Rule
in May 2005. Since then Gov. Schwarzenegger has made several public
promises to protect 100 percent of our wild forests in California. Time is
running out for him to fulfill this promise.

Help spur the governor to action. Ask him to protect our last
remaining wild forests. Follow the link below or paste it into your web
browser.

A Spring time Poem by Lady Jan

The Earth Laughs
a poem
by Lady Jan

Roots waken in the gloom,
reach and stretch for more room,
looking for nutrients to consume.
Tickled the Earth laughs to the moon.

Blossoms open sending out their sweet scent.
Bees buzz sweet talk the flowers with an accent.
To pollinate all the trees is the farmers intent.
And the Earth laughs content.

Robins and sparrows chirp and sings.
Killdeers drag a pretend broken wings.
Mocking birds sing every things.
The Earth laughs at these things.

Daffodils shore their sunny faces,
Crocus, Tulips, and Hyacinths appear in some places.
Yellow, lavender, scarlet, and blue many a garden graces.
The Earth laughs delighted in those places.

Trees unfurl leaves to the fullest percent.
Children climb trees and hopefully without accident.
Bouquet of flowers are gathered for moms a present.
And the Earth laughs to the fullest extent.

Lady Jan on the first day of Spring!

The day started out nice enough; with deep blue skies, the kind that look like it could go on forever with just enough big fluffy white clouds to break up the monotony. It was also a bit chilly, but not bad and not too bad for the first day of Spring.

Then around noon it started to get really windy, cloudy, and cold. I mean really windy-- when I drove down to my daughter school I had to fight the wind to stay on the road. At 1:30 it started to sprinkle and rain a bit, but not too bad really.

Then we went to Wal-mart where I bought my daughter socks; because she made me wait for her in the car for almost ten minutes and narrowly missing being late to school all because she couldn't find a matching pair of socks! Oy! Kids! So I fixed that problem by buying her six assorted pairs of socks. That's a pair of socks a day for a week, plus one! So she better be ready on time tomorrow! I also bought a couple pairs for myself as I found some on clearance, and I a sucker for a good deal. Well, when I have money.

When we left Wal-mart at 2:30 it got darker and darker. Then it started to rain and it rained harder and harder, then it begin to sheet! We don't usually get sheeting rain, as we are a rather dry area. So this was somewhat unusual. I could barely see to drive the car it was coming down so hard, and I had to drive real slow too--to be safe. Then we got soaked when we rain into the house, and we made good use of the new socks by changing into then, and some fresh dry clothes.

3:30 I picked up my husband at work (he works at the largest winery in Madera) and it had calmed down a lot with just an occational sprinkle. I said, "Some rain huh?" He said, "I'll say I was out in it!"

Then he told me about a co-worker named Duke, who is shall we say a bit of a hard Arse. Anyway when it was raining at 1:00 a gentle rain; my husband Duke and some other guys where working in a big building, that's the size of a air plane hanger and Duke was doing some work near the open door; which is like a large garage door. Then Duke yells at the sky, "Is that all you got huh? Come on show me something! Show me what you got!" (shades of Forest Gump!) Then believe it or not it started to blow really hard like on cue! Then it started to rain at 1:30, then a while later at 2:30 (same time as we got caught in it) it started to sheet!

My husband's other co-workers yelled at Duke, "Now you've done it! You've pissed off God!"

Lady Jan's One Mountain Picture

Posted by Picasa I took several pictures of the maountains what i could see of them, yesterday.
They are getting a little fuzzier.

Lady Jan's daughter is pinch proof!

Posted by Picasa My daughter and I worked on her outfit for today so she'd be pinch proof!
She's wearing my green sweater, and the clips in her hair were originally pony tail holder.
But I clipped off the rubber band and my daughter glue gunned then onto some hair barrettes.
She also wore three of my pins that have saying like "100% Irish," "life too short not to be Irish," and another where as the line of mugs gets emptied the the "100% Irish" words get blurrier and blurrier.
It worked she didn't get pinched, but she did get to pinch about five of her fellow students.

Lady Jan's Avitar is ready for St. Patrick's day!

A St. Paddy's day Present from your Lady Jan

This song an uniquely Irish-American,
as it is a good-by from a parent to a son who is going to America.
Also this parent know he or she will never see this son again.
Keep that in mind as you read the lyrics.
O' Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow (death)
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying(grave)
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
(I think that is a rosery)

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
(the last bit is the son going to the parent grave)

Lady Jan Wishes everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day!

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you
May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks.
May your heart be as light as a song.
May each day bring you bright happy hours,
That stay with you all year long.
For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.
May the leprechauns be near you,
to spread luck along your way
And may all the Irish angels
smile upon you this
St. Patrick's Day

E-mail on Cleaning Up Our Dirty Water

This bothers me--I grew up in around our local lakes.

My dad was a advid fisherman, and always took us every summer to the different lake near, and not so near Madera. I swam in those lake as a kid (actually I'm quite a good swimmer), and we ate the fish my dad caught in those lakes too. And to know how poluted they are gives me a chill. Not ot mention how dirty the water we drink is now.

Hi Janice,

Our health and our environment depend on clean water, but many of
California's rivers, lakes and bays are too polluted for basic activities
like fishing and swimming.

Instead of cleaning up our water, the Bush administration is making it
easier to pollute by taking away protections from waterways in
California and around the country, opening these waters to unlimited pollution
and development. Fortunately, Congress has the power to ensure that all
waterways remain protected.

Please take a moment to ask Senator Feinstein to protect America's
waters. Then ask your family and friends to help by forwarding this email
to them.

To take action, click on the link below or paste it into your web
browser:

http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/action/clean-water/feinstein

BACKGROUND:

Since the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972, we have made significant
progress in cleaning up our waters, but many of America's great
waterways from the Mississippi River to the San Francisco Bay to Lake Tahoe
struggle with pollution.

In 2003, the Bush administration established a policy that removes
Clean Water Act protections from many of America's streams, wetlands and
ponds. These streams and wetlands are the lifeblood of the nation's
diverse water systems. They feed and clean America's large waterways by
supplying water, filtering out pollutants, slowing flood waters and
providing habitat for fish, birds and other wildlife.

As a result of the Bush administration's "No Protection" policy for
America's waters, tens of thousands of miles of streams and millions of
acres of wetlands are at risk from unchecked development, pollution and
even destruction. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
estimates that 20 million acres of wetlands, 20% of the total wetlands in the
continental U.S., could lose protection as a result of this policy.

As small streams and wetlands are damaged or destroyed by the "No
Protection" policy, the rivers, lakes and coastal waters they feed and clean
also will be harmed. For example, regional EPA officials estimate that
more than half the streams in the Chesapeake Bay area could lose
protection as a result of the No Protection policy, leading to more pollution
in the Bay.

To restore the health and integrity of America's waterways, we need to
ensure that all waters continue to be protected. Fortunately, Congress
does not have to accept the Bush administration's "No Protection"
policy nor wait for the Supreme Court to decide a case they are hearing on
waterway protections to take action.

Please take a moment to ask Senator Dianne Feinstein to protect all of
the nation's waters by cosponsoring the Clean Water Authority
Restoration Act of 2005. Then ask your family and friends to help by forwarding
this email to them.

Lady Jan says--and here I though P0rn was bad enough!

Has anyone heard of this? I accidentally stumbled upon this as I surfed the web! I was e-mailing Ann (Roc Rebel Granny) about this, and decided to post it.

Real Live Dolls It's a freaking king sized barbie doll! And here I thought p0rn was bad enough, with the way it demeans women and addicts men! We women hate it because it demeans us as a person and as a sex. Men like it I think because they like to think of us women as an object. And it makes us easier for them to deal with, then have to grow up and have a real relationship, and have and deal with real feelings.

Well, if they feel that way they should have a plastic doll!

And here they make them now!

Real Big Plastic Dolls! That men can have sex with, and I'm not talking the old blow up kind, but plastic king size barbie type.

I think this concept is sickening. We want our sons (every-body's sons) to relate to woman (our daughters) as a real humans with feelings, dreams, goals of their own, and not as an object. And our daughters to respect themselves enough not to become a plastic persona (I think we can name a few), and not to give up these dreams and goals of hers.

And here comes the big plastic dolls. Hey it comes with no real feeling the man has to deal with!

Now men have discovered a way to have sex with out having to worry about that uncomfortable thing called a real relationship!

Here's another web sight on the dolls: photos of the dolls posed as women, and what's worse is that one of the picture show a "doll" next a child.

Lady Jan says--Here Comes the Heart Burn Express!

My husband for some reason thinks I like chili Verdi, I guess it's because I always order the chimichanga burito at Burito King with chili Verdi.

So he got me a surprise!

Chips flavored with--you guessed it chili Verdi.

I told him I only like chili Verdi on chimichangas, but he looked hurt at the rejection so I promised to try some.

Oh no!

Here comes the heart burn express!

I think I had the worse heart burn ever! Not even pepsid AC worked! I even tried pepto! Nothing worked! I burped all night, and kept drinking water trying to get the acid out of my throat!

Aack! Burp! Yuck! That's enough for me! I threw the rest away!

E-mail on Soot Pollution

Hi Janice,

Soot pollution is the nation's deadliest air pollutant, and affects
communities across California. Over the past few weeks, over 4,000
Environment California activists have asked the EPA to strengthen standards
for soot pollution. Dozens more will testify at the air quality hearings
being held in San Francisco next week.

Now, I hope you will take one more step and write a letter to your
local paper about soot pollution and the Bush administration's efforts to
role back current standards. We need the EPA and the media to pay
attention to this important clean air issue. Please ask your family and
friends to do the same by forwarding this email to them.

To submit a letter and get tips on how to write one, click on this link
or paste it to your web browser:

http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/action/clean-air/lte-soot

Background:

Particle or soot pollution is made up of tiny particles, called "fine"
particles, and slightly larger ones, called "coarse" particles, that
are both dangerous and pervasive. Because of their size, these particles
can bypass the body's natural defenses, such as coughing and sneezing,
and lodge deep within the lungs or even pass into the bloodstream,
causing serious respiratory and cardiovascular problems, such as asthma
attacks, heart attacks, and lung cancer. In fact, particle pollution is
so dangerous that it cuts short the lives of tens of thousands of
Americans each year. Power plants and diesel engines are the largest source
of particle pollution. In some parts of the country, agriculture and
mining contribute to serious local coarse particle problems.

Under the Clean Air Act, the administration must set air quality
standards at levels that protect public health and review these standards
every five years, and update them as needed. For fine particle pollution,
there are two standards: an "annual" standard based on how much fine
particle pollution is safe to breathe on a regular, everyday basis and a
"24-hour" standard based on how much fine particle pollution is safe to
breathe on any one day.

In the last several years, study after study has confirmed the damaging
health effects of particles, even at levels well below the current
annual and 24-hour standards. In 2005, both the administration's
independent science advisors on clean air issues and the EPA's staff scientists
concluded that adverse health effects occur at levels well below the
current fine particle standards. As a result, they recommended that the
administration strengthen the standards to protect public health.

In December, however, the Bush administration rejected these
recommendations and proposed fine particle standards that would largely maintain
the status quo, as requested by electric utility lobbyists and other
special interests. Specifically, the administration rejected lowering
the annual standard and proposed only a token reduction in the daily
standard that will have little impact on public health. It is
unprecedented for an administration to disregard the recommendations of its
independent clean air science advisors.

Air quality standards are the foundation for reducing air pollution
nationwide, so the decision on the fine particle standards is one of the
most important decisions this administration will make on air pollution.
Yet, once again, the Bush administration has chosen to favor polluters
over public health and to put politics above science and the law.

In January, the Bush administration opened a public comment period on
the proposal and over 4,000 Environment California activists have
already commented in favor of stronger soot pollution standards. Dozens more
will testify at air quality hearings in San Francisco next week.

Now, I hope you will take one more step and write a letter to your
local paper about soot pollution and the Bush Administrations efforts to
role back current standards. We need the public and the media to pay
attention to this important clean air issue.

Lady Jan says March came in like a Lion but will it leave like a Lamb?

You know the old saying "March comes in like a Lion and leaves like a Lamb?"

Well it got a good start!

Last week it rained, and hailed my daughter got soaked and beaned right smack in the middle of the forehead with a large piece of hail. This week she has a sinus infection. We took her to the doctor and she has to take antibiotcs.

Today the weather was crazy! Rain, hail, sleet. It snowed in Hanford which is just 90 mile from here. And it snowed as low as Madera's 22 Mile house, if your wondering where that is I hooked a link to their sight just above. And it could snow here tomorrow, and we only get snow just every 10 to 15 years. Though it is very rare that it stays, usually it melts away. I think it snowed and stayed in my life time, when I was roughly a year old and then when I was about I think 38.

We're thinking warm thoughts here in Madera!

Lady Jan says--My Cousin Made a Remarkable recovery

My cousin Nelda sent me a cliping through the mail on my cousin Becky's remarkable recovery. She survived a car crash that killed her husband, and left her in a state that the doctor thought that she was brain dead, but she recovered! She had to--she said she had two young boys who need her.

I looked it up on the internet and found the article! I have set up a link through the above title so click away to read the article, and if that don't work click Here.

Lady Jan's What a Rare sight!

In California we have two separate mountain ranges; The Sierra Nevadas which run the length of our state inland, and the Coatal Mountains that of course run close to the coast. In between the mountain ranges is the San San Joaquin Valley, where I live in Madera, and usually when we see the Coastal Mountain range-- Posted by Picasa
On a very clear day this is what we see!
And we would consider ourselves lucky to see this.
But today we had a rare sight!
Posted by Picasa
Not only did we see the Coatal Mountain range in all it's glory!
But there was actually snow in them there hills!
Posted by Picasa

And lower down in the mountains too.
Posted by Picasa

Right where you can see it!
Up close and personal! Posted by Picasa
So close it looks like there only a mile away!
Wow!
Georgous!

Lady Jan's Daffodils

My tulips were a no show after the first year.
My grape hyacinths gave up the ghost after the second year,
and my crocus crocked after about three years.
My pretty daffodils are my only reliable naturalized (returning every year)flower.
My fancy Daffodils.
Here you can clearly see my shame!
Bermuda grass has taken over my garden.

A meme I got from Granny(Ann) who got it from a couple of other people.

I got this from Granny(Ann) it was a tag meme and Ann threw it open for anyone to play. Anyone else want to take a crack at it?

1: Black and White or Color; how do you prefer your movies?
I grew up a with black and white TV , and I'm totally use to gray scale, so much so that color on the old movies just seem weird!

2: What is the 1 single subject that bores you to near-death?
On TV it would be bowling, tennis, or worse golf.

3: MP3s, CD's, Tapes or Records: what is your favorite medium for prerecorded music?
I love CD's, I think they are the greatest medium ever! The side of small Frisbee and all the music of a old fashion LP.

4: You are handed one 1st class trip plane ticket to anywhere in the world and $10 million cash.
All of this is yours provided that you leave and not tell anyone where you are going. Ever. This includes family, friends, everyone. Would you take the money and ticket and run?
Um, no. But now and again I do have those days. H-mm? Naw, I'll just save that one for my very active fantasy life, that my life would be oh so dull with out.

5: Seriously, what do you consider the world's most pressing issue now?
Do I have to chose just one? But there are so many; Bigotryry, greed, neglect, child abuse, elder abuse, hatred, envy, murder, rape the list is just too long!

6: How would you rectify the world's most pressing issue?
Who me? Look, you can only affect those you things that you have some influence over. I do my best but mostly I pray a lot! And I send in a few e-mails every now and then.

7: You are given the chance to go back and change 1 thing in your life; what would that be?
One thing? Only one? But there just too many things! Mostly I think I just be braverier sooner.

8: You are given the chance to go back and change 1 event in world history, what would that be?
I'm copying Ann's, who copied Julian's, who copied Tina's because it's darn good: "I would render Barbara and George H. Walker Bush infertile." Then I'll add Hitler's mom and dad, then Atilla the Hun, then Stalinlen, and Paris Hilton because she just annoys the crap out of me.

9: A night at the opera, or a night at the Grand Ole Opry Which do you choose?
What a choice? Opera.

10: What is the 1 great unsolved crime of all time you'd like to solve?
Jack the Ripper, who I have always been fascinated by.

11: One famous author can come to dinner with you. Who would that be, and what would you serve for the meal?
Pat Hodgell because she is my favoite author, and I serve h-mm, baked chicken and a mess of veggies and almond fried rice. Mostly because I have fixed that meal so long I can do it blind folded, and I wouldn't want to miss a single moment with Pat.

12: You discover that John Lennon was right, that there is no hell below us, and above us there is only sky what's the 1st immoral thing you might do to celebrate this fact?
Immoral--ME? Never!
